Fund Development Manager to join our team at the Allan Brooks Nature Center!
Located in one of the most picturesque spots in Vernon, BC, the Allan Brooks Nature Center is a not-for-
profit organization whose goals are to increase public awareness, appreciation, enjoyment and
stewardship of nature in the Okanagan region by providing firsthand opportunities to see, experience
and learn of the Okanagan’s unique and diverse natural history, showcase its natural areas and features
through information programs, displays, nature-related activities and events for all ages.
As our Fund Development Manager, you will be responsible for seeking, building and maintaining
relationships with donors, sponsors, and other supporters of our organization. You will identify new
funding sources and research funding opportunities, write and submit grant proposals, plan and execute
fundraising events and campaigns, and collaborate with our Centre Manager to ensure that fundraising
activities are aligned with our organizational goals.
We are looking for a results-oriented, strategic thinker with a minimum of 5 years of experience in fund
development or a related field. You should have a proven track record of successfully raising funds for
non-profit organizations and strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Additionally,
you should be able to think strategically, develop and implement effective fundraising strategies, have
experience creating donor recognition initiatives, and possess knowledge of fundraising software and
tools.

Environmental Education Program Assistant (Permanent Part-time)

Then Allan Brooks Nature Centre is looking for you. We have a permanent – part-time Environmental Education Program Assistant (21 hours per week) starting in January.
Working with the Programming Coordinator, you will be presenting our Nature in the Classroom, Kokanee Salmon field trips and Science of Nature programs to Grd. K to 7. As well as, assisting in the creation of new programming and leading Community experiences at the Centre and other local locations.
The Basics:
- A back ground in science, environmental studies, tourism, education or bring your passion for nature and sharing for all ages.
- Strong interpersonal/ skills
- Previous experience leading groups of youth, adults and seniors
- Be willing to learn
- Work independently, but work within a team environment,
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Some of the other Stuff:
- Assisting with education program development
- Present current and new programming in class rooms, virtually and on location.
- Nature interpretation
- Provide a positive, enthusiastic ecological and/or cultural learning experience to visitors through informative and interpretive guided tours
- Lead nature interpretive programs indoor and outdoor independently to individual visitors and small to large- sized (4 to 20+) groups

What we offer
Potential for Full time
$19.00 to $21.00 Per hour (depending on experience)

VISITOR SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR/RECEPTION (SEASONAL)

Then Allan Brooks Nature Centre is looking for you. We have a Visitor Services/Reception Administrator position
(Seasonal from April 10 – Nov 2, 2023)
Working with the Centre Manager, you will be responsible for the Front reception desk, greeting visitors, providing information and general administration duties.
The Basics:
- A back ground in administration, reception, or a passion for nature and sharing for all ages.
- Experience with working with the public
- Previous experience leading groups of youth, adults and seniors
- Strong interpersonal/ skills
- Be willing to learn
- Work independently, but work within a team environment,
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Some of the other Stuff:
- Assist in the promotion of ABNC programs and special events through posting materials at the Nature Centre and externally in the community, as well as promoting community involvement with visitors and prospective volunteers
- Familiarity with the local area and its attractions, as well as knowledge of the tourism industry,
- Strong computer skills, MS Office, database management and record keeping skills
- Welcoming visitors of all ages to the Centre and explaining the wonders of ABNC and our programs;
- Assist with daily tasks of the nature centre, including working front desk, answering phone calls
- Experience in working with live animals (Turtle and Corn snake)
What we offer

What we need from you:
- 1-2 years experience in the not-for-profit sector
- A degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered

Stewardship Coordinator

Then Allan Brooks Nature Centre is looking for you. We have a Summer/fall position for the Stewardship Coordinator (Up to 35 hours per week) starting in Early May 2023.
Working with the Centre Manager and ABNC Staff, you will be responsible for coordinating and implementing grasslands conservation projects, protocols and initiatives at Allan Brooks Nature Centre.
The Basics:
- A back ground in science, environmental studies, ecology
- Bring your passion for nature and sharing for all ages.
- Strong interpersonal/ skills
- Previous experience leading groups of youth, adults and seniors
- Be willing to learn
- Work independently, but work within a team environment,
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Some of the other Stuff:
- Work with the Guardians of the Grasslands to identify and remove invasive plant species on Allan Brooks property.
- Connect with ICS BC (Invasive Species Council of BC) for information and collaboration
- Work with the programming Coordinator to create Invasive materials and programs to provide to visitor’s information on the issue.
What we offer
$19.00 to $21.00 Per hour (depending on experience)
What we need from you:
- Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, ecology, biology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in grasslands conservation, ecosystem management, or related field
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with common grassland ecosystems, including knowledge of native and invasive plant species

Summer Programming Staff

Then Allan Brooks Nature Centre is looking for you. We have a summer position for the summer programming staff (Up to 35 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday) one position starts May 8 and the remaining positions June 8, 2023.
Do you have a passion for nature and want to share?
Working with the Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for guiding our Nature Summer Camps, leading trail walks and Nature talks. Provide public interpretation in the Nature Centre.
The Basics:
- A back ground in science, environmental studies, education or a passion for nature and sharing for all ages.
- Strong interpersonal/ skills
- Previous experience leading groups of youth, adults and seniors
- Be willing to learn
- Work independently, but work within a team environment,
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Some of the other Stuff:
- Lead summer camps from July – August
- Provide interpretive Tail walks and nature Talks as required
- Assist Programming Coordinator with summer program development
