Events & Volunteer Coordination Assistant (Summer Student)

Looking for a summer role where you can be part of exciting events and make a real impact in the community?

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre is hiring an Events & Volunteer Coordination Assistant to support a busy and dynamic summer season. This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, and applicants must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and contributing to meaningful community experiences.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll play a key role supporting both event delivery and volunteer coordination, including:

  • Assisting with events such as Raptors, Dinner Under the Stars, and other special events
  • Supporting event setup, guest check-in, coordination, and takedown
  • Helping recruit and onboard volunteers
  • Processing volunteer applications and coordinating interviews
  • Supporting the coordination and scheduling of volunteers for events and programs
  • Tracking volunteer information and supporting communication
  • Gathering photos, updates, and event highlights to support marketing efforts
  • Working with our digital marketing support to provide content and information for social media and promotions
  • Assisting with general administrative and front desk support as needed

Position Details

  • Term: June 1 – August 29, 2026
  • Hours: Up to 35 hours per week
  • Wage: $19.50 per hour
  • Schedule: Typically Tuesday–Saturday, with flexibility based on events

To be eligible for this position, candidates must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

Environmental Program Assistant (Camp Counsellor)

The Environmental Program Assistant (Camp Counsellor) plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC). This position involves designing, developing, and delivering on-site environmental education programs and summer camps for children and or youth, seniors and special interest groups. Acting as a key liaison between ABNC and its visitors, the Camp Counsellor ensures meaningful and engaging experiences that connect participants to the unique ecology of the Okanagan region.

Key Responsibilities

Program and Camp Development:

  • Design, develop and implement new nature-based programs tailored to schools, community groups, and general visitors 
  • Create daily schedules and develop activities for Nature Summer Camps (running Tuesday to Friday)
  • Supervise participants to ensure a safe, fun and engaging camp environment

Program Delivery and Interpretation:

  • Research and share information about Okanagan flora, fauna, and ecosystems
  • Lead both school group programs and summer camps, providing hands-on learning experiences
  • Facilitate interpretive programs for individuals and groups, offering guided tours, birthday parties and presentations that foster ecological and cultural awareness

Visitor Engagement:

  • Greet and interact with visitors to create positive, enthusiastic learning experiences
  • Support the development of interpretive displays and ensure they align with educational goals

Animal Care:

  • Provide (as and when required) care for ABNC’s ambassador animals, including a snake, turtle, spider, bees, and other species

Collaboration and Community Experience:

  • Work closely with staff and volunteers to deliver a high-quality visitor experience
  • Contribute to the creation of a welcoming and educational environment for the public
  • Additional related tasks in and around the Centre as required

This position offers the opportunity to inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds through environmental education and interpretation while fostering a deeper connection to the natural world in the Okanagan.

35 hours per week at $19.50 hr
