Intro to Xeriscape Class

Learn about xeriscape gardening from Sigrie Kendrick, Executive Director of the Okanagan Xeriscape Association. Xeriscaping is gardening with the natural conditions that you live in, rather than fighting against them. This class will teach you principals of design and planning, soil improvement, practical turf areas, efficient irrigation, appropriate plant selection and much more! By adopting xeriscape techniques you can create a beautiful, sustainable landscape, eliminate chemical use, conserving water and creating habitat for birds and butterflies.

The class will be 1.5 hours long with 30 minutes at the end for Q&A. BYOQ- bring your own questions! The more specific the better, this is your opportunity to get insight into your own garden plans.

Pre-registration is required, and tickets are $30.00 per person. Feel free to bring a snack/ drink as the class runs through dinner time for most people.

Waterwise and Firesmart Workshop

Join us for a presentation with RDNO Water Sustainability Coordinator Jennifer Miles for a very relevant discussion on reducing water use and keeping safe from fire. Participants will learn how to use the FireSmart zone method for choosing where to plant, you will also learn to select plants that are WaterWise and FireSmart, and she’ll give maintenance tips to keep your yard looking good without using a lot of water. This summer is a good reminder to be pre-pared and make smart choices for everyone’s health and safety! Pre-registration is required. Limited space available in our classroom setting.
