With the goal to create a unique, engaging, and place-based event to celebrate Canada’s 150th, ABNC is forming a Festival Steering Committee this month to begin the planning process for a September 2017 Festival. The Steering Committee’s mandate is to plan, coordinate and identify tasks and to work with sub-committees and other volunteers to implement and deliver the inaugural event.
It is anticipated that there will be 15 or more Sub-Committees (from Seminars and Field Trips to Fundraising and Sponsorship) formed to organize and implement the festival. We are seeking individuals interested to participate and make a contribution to the community by offering their skills and interest to create a remarkable regional celebration event. The more core volunteers that we are able to bring together for this festival, the greater the potential reach and engagement value we may create for all involved.
In addition to a variety of Raptor Programs, birding and other nature-based activities and events during the festival, it is anticipated that we will also create activities that incorporate Okanagan cultural history, art and performance, writing, and poetry, among other featured events within the 4-day festival schedule.
If you are interested to get involved in this initiative, we’d love to hear from you! Contact: Aaron Deans, executive director at: [email protected]
