Launched in 2015, the Allan Brooks Nature Trailer is a mobile educational unit that brings the outdoors to you! Featuring interactive, hands-on displays and guided activities, the Nature Trailer Program is a uniquely Okanagan experience that children of all ages can enjoy.
Whether your group regularly visits the Allan Brooks Nature Centre or has never stepped foot in the grasslands, you'll love a Nature Trailer visit. The Nature Trailer program is designed to compliment visits to the main location; classes who have already visited the Nature Centre will learn and encounter new things.
The Nature Trailer Program is designed to satisfy the Life Science Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLO’s) of the new BC curricula. With programs handcrafted by a team of biologists, we develop students’ understanding of their local ecosystems and inspire a love for nature.
The Nature Trailer Program runs for 60 minutes, and includes a tour through the Nature Trailer and several hands-on activities that are custom tailored to the age group. Activities are adjustable based on weather conditions at the time of the programs. Main activities take place outdoors, but an alternate set of classroom-appropriate activities are available in case of extreme weather.
The program is designed for one class of 25 students per session, with up to 5 sessions offered per day.
Nature Trailer fees are structured to encourage collaboration between teachers to book multiple sessions for each visit.
Current rates are a base fee of $200 per day + $100 per class*
Our base fee covers the travel and preparation costs for your school, while class fees are based on a minimum booking of three classes per day.
*Schools within School District 22 are offered a local discount for multi-day bookings. If scheduled dates are adjacent, local schools will only be charged a base fee for the first day.
